Biography

Emily Ada Betts was born and raised in Manhattan. Her first home was probably 177 E. 114th Street.[1] By the time she was 20 years old the family had moved to 97 E. 116th Street.[2] That address no longer exists and is either a deli or under the El train. In 1905, the family lived at 104 116th Street.[3]

Ada, as she preferred to be called, married Joseph Williams when she was 29. They applied for a marriage license on 3 June 1908 in Manhattan.[4][5]

He already had an infant son from his previous marriage. They had three more children together. Marion was born while they lived at 510 W. 162nd Street in Manhattan.[6] Ada was born when they lived at 1006 Ogden Avenue in the Bronx. Their son, George, was also born in the Bronx.[7] Later, the family moved to Mount Vernon. They lived at 42 West 4th Street.[8][9][10][11]

Ada passed away, at the age of 56, on 24 January 1935.
