Obituary: "OUR Newcastle correspondent writes under yesterday's date : A short time ago. I announced, through your column, the death of one of our oldest colonists, viz., Mr. Robert Waters. It is now with sincere regret that I have to announce the demise of his wife, Mrs. Susan Waters. The deceased lady was in Newcastle apparently in the best of health, on the 15th inst. Whilst walking down the street she was seized with an apopletic fit, which proved fatal.

The deceased arrived in this colony in the year 1830, by the ship Rockingham. The vessel was driven ashore at Rockingham, near Fremantle, from which circumstance the place derived its name. The vessel was loaded with emigrants, who underwent great hardships and privations. Mrs. Waters married the late Robert Waters in the year 1842, and after residing a short time on the Swan, removed to the Toodyay District, where she resided until the day of her death.

The deceased, who had obtained the ripe age of 69 years was interred in the Culham Cemetery. She leaves behind her 43 grandchildren, and 12 sons and daughters. The deceased lady by her kindly disposition and her many good deeds endeared herself to all who had the pleasure of her acquaintance. The funeral was very largely attended, and testified to the esteem, in which the deceased was held by her neighbours and friends. Beautiful floral wreaths were sent by several ladies in Newcastle."[6]

Betts-1628 and Betts-868 appear to represent the same person because: Duplicates, Susan was linked as wife to William Waters which was incorrect. Her husband is Robert Waters-2621.
