Biography

Caution: Two William Perry Billups

WARNING: NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH WILLIAM PERRY HAYZLETT B. ca 1828

This William was initially listed as the son of James and Sarah (Hayzlett) Billups. But based on his birth date listed as 1807, he could not be their son William. Their son William Perry Billups -age 21 is listed with the family on the 1850 Scotland Co, MO census- 1850 Scotland County, MO Johnson TWP page 146 3rd day of October

James Bilups-57 M Farmer 800 Virginia (b. 1792-93
Sarah 46 F b. VA (b. 1803-04)
John 25 M Farmer b. VA (b. 1824-25)
William 21 M b. VA (b. 1828-29)
Isham D. 18 M Farmer b. VA (b. 1831-32)
Lisa 17 F. b. VA (b. 1832-33)
James H. 7 M b. Missouri (b. 1842-43)[1]

It appears that the two Williams are mixed up through an incorrect merge or ?????

  • ATTN: I may be misinformed but ------

According to BILLUPS.ged and the information passed on to me by Mary Ana (Billups) Vizy Andrews, William Perry Billups was the son of James D. Billups and Sarah Whitney. William Perry BILLUPS was born about 1827, not 1807, which must be mistake, due to his mother's birth in 1805. [ The comment that the date has to be an error is supposed to be in both of these sources! as not many women are mothers at the age of 2 years!!! Nor are they married to men of 19 or 20 years of age when they are mere infants!!! ]

Origin

The 1880 Census reports that William was 73 years old in 1880. Based on this, his birth is estimated to have been about 1803. The FindaGrave memorial reports his birth as 10 January 1807 (without evidence or source). The memorial includes a photo of his grave stone which reports his death on 10 January 1887, aged 80 years. Possibly the birth date is simply in reference to his grave stone.

The 1880 United States Census for Wayne, Buchanan, Missouri, says:

William BILLUPS; Self; Married; Male; White; 73 years; West Virginia; Farmer; Father born in Virginia; Mother born in ---.
Patsy BILLUPS; Wife; Married; Female; White; 54 years; Born in Indiana; Keeping House; Father born in Virginia; Mother born in Virginia.
Geoyms BILLUPS; Son; Single; Male; White; 29 years; Born in Missouri; Fram Laborer; Father born in West Virginia; Mother born in West Virginia.
Sabrina A. BILLUPS; Daughter; Single; Female; White; 19 years; Missouri; House Keeper; Father born in West Virginia; Mother born in Indiana.[2]

Death and Legacy

Unclear whether William died on 9 or 10 January 1887. According to FindaGrave, William lived in Missouri for 42 years before his death at the Salt Creek Township on 9 January 1887, aged 80 years, following a bout with pneumonia for 9 days. He was buried at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Musselfork Township, Charaton County, Missouri.[3] However his grave stone reads:

Died Jan 10 1887, Aged 80 years

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:

Billups-232 and Billups-89 appear to represent the same person because: I believe these are the same person and those surrounding them are the same.
