Born BEF 1729. Europe[1]
Died FEB 1789. Penns Creek, Northumberland Co, PA. [2]
John Bingley wrote his will in Penn Township, Northumberland County, PA(now Snyder Co) on 1/27/1789, naming wife Catharina, and 5 children, Catharina, Jacob, Adam, Maria, and Maria Elisabetha.
On 2/28/1789, the 5 children were named executors. Thus, all were adults over age 21, and born bef. 1768. There is no record of the settlement of this estate in Northumberland County. None of the children can be found in the 1790 census, just a year later. No trace of any of them can be found except for a Jacob Binkley recorded as a private in Union County militia in 1813, when the Jacob would be over age 45.
This family is a real mystery. One clue is the name of one witness to the will, named John Bickel. My first thought was that this john was not a Binkley, but was from one of the several Bickel families who moved to Northumberland from Heidelberg in northern Berks. But the clerk clearly heard the names Bickel and Binkley as clearly different names, and wrote them differently. We know where all the other John Binkleys died, so this one is quite likely Cocalico John, or a son of his, also named John.
