Obituary

Roseanna B. Hester (Birdwell) (age 87) began her earthly journey on March 4, 1921 in Bridgeport, Nebraska, as the second of three daughters born to James Herbert and Maybel (Nunn) Birdwell. On March 17, 2008, she entered the heavenly kingdom peacefully and surrounded by her two loving daughters at Hospice House in Spokane, WA. after a recent brief infection.

Roseanna was raised on a small farm near Dalton, NE. Her family moved to California for a short while, back to Nebraska, and then when she was age 14 the family moved to Finley, WA. (near Kennewick) where she graduated from high school in 1940. She married John Hester of Thornton, WA on October 25, 1940 in Finley. John and Roseanna lived in the Thornton community for the 46 years of their married life as John farmed with his dad near Thornton. They had two daughters, Roseanna Mae and Sarah Jean; whom she loved dearly. Roseanna was very active in the Thornton community, serving as Sunday School teacher in the Thornton Methodist Church, a 4-H leader, she held multiple grange officer positions and was active in school and community events. She loved children and frequently cared for them. Her other great enjoyments were gardening, both vegetables and flowers, and traveling with John to wherever their daughters resided, including Pakistan and England. After her husband John died on March 18, 1987 she then moved to Rosalia, WA. where she enjoyed “seniors” every Tuesday noon and was a member of the Rosalia Garden Club. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Colfax since 1968.

Survivors include her two daughters, Roseanna Mae and Sarah Jean Hester of Spokane; two sisters, Lois Reimers Heizer of Dalton, NE. and Mary Louise Craig of Osgood, IN; two sisters-in-law, Mary Jane Austin, White Salmon, WA and Betty L. Hester, South Pasadena, CA. and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, March 24, 2008 at 11:00 AM at the Rosalia Methodist Church with Pastor Roy Jeremiah officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00 at the Thornton Cemetery. Viewing will be Friday from 9-5 at Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax and on Monday from 9-11 at the church.

Memorials may be made to the Thornton Cemetery, 10201 Sunset Rd; Thornton, WA 99176 or to Peace Lutheran Church, Colfax. [1]
