Biography

John Bishop and Jane Ewell of Kent were previously attached as parents, but given what is known about the birth dates for each, including Dorothy Bishop, she cannot be their daughter. Other John Bishops were alive at the same time, it should be noted.

Dorcas _______________, wife of John Corker, was born in 1601.[1] She would have been in Virginia by 22 Mar 1622[2] when John Corker is documented there. She passed away after 1659.

Research Notes

There is some evidence that John Corker may have had two wives. [2] A Mrs Corker is named in an 8 Dec 1624 court document with no first name given. In 1656 the name of John Corker's wife is given as Dorothy yet in other documents she may be seen as Dorcas. See next paragraph.

That the Dorothy Bishop mentioned in Nugent, Nell M., Cavaliers and Pioneers, I:185 is the wife of John Corker named Dorothy is not documented. This is speculation based upon a land for transportation record. Additionally, if this Dorothy Bishop is the Dorothy wife of John Corker the dates would suggest that she is a second wife.[3] For purposes of the Corker family profile clean-up, all Dorothy profiles are being merged as Dorothy Bishop.

It is believed John Corker was born some time between the year 1600 and 1609. His wife, Dorothy Bishop, is believed to have been born in 1609 as she is listed at age 50 when she testified in Surry County court in 1659.

Bishop-1907 and Bishop-5192 appear to represent the same person because: These profiles represent the same person. Bishop-5192 is now updated to include known extant information. It is known the wife of John Corker was Dorothy. Whether or not that was Dorothy Bishop is speculation. However, both profiles present the wife of John Corker and should be merged.

This profile is coming up in my suggested feed since the mother died in 1640 but continued to give birth thru 1645. If they are estimates anyway, then the mother's death must match at least her last child in 1645 or the children should be detached from her if her death and their births are correct. I hope that makes sense?
Pattie, see the profile Dorothy Bishop which is updated to extant documentation. Dorothy is documented alive in 1659 by a court deposition and possibly as late as 1664 by deed records.

Bishop-3633 and Bishop-5192 are not ready to be merged because: Similarities is not enough to merge them without more research
