Biography

Maria "Mary" Bishop was born c. 1713 (guess) in New Castle County, Delaware. She was the daughter of Nicolas and Dorcas (Unknown) Bishop. She was listed as a beneficiary in her father Nicolas Bishop's Last Will and Testament, which was signed 28 July 1745 in New Castle, Delaware.

"Item: I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary the sum of twenty shillings to be paid by my son John."[1]

About 1732, she married James "Jacob" Springer and they were the parents of eleven known children.

Their first known child, Dorcas Springer (listed as Darkis) was born 17 October 1733 and baptized 21 October in Wilmington, New Castle, Delaware. [2]

Mary Springer's Last Will and Testament dated 22 May 1786 was proved 23 March 1790. It lists the following children (record shows daughter's married names): Charles Springer, Dorcas Ball, Mary Armstrong, Nicholas Springer, Ann Jamison, Elizabeth Paulson, Jacob Springer, John Springer and Thomas Springer.[3]
