Bethia Bishop was born about 1631 in England. She married James Steele on 18 Oct 1651 in Guilford, New Haven, Connecticut.[1]

Family files sometimes report a Betsey Bishop born to the family of immigrant John Bishop. While there may be other accounts, in a 1906 account of John Bishop's family, "Betsey" was a nickname attributed to daughter Bethia Bishop. She was " "Bethia (or Betsey) Bishop" who reportedly married James Steel.,[2]

Bethya, dau of John Sr. & Anna, mar James Steele, 18 Oct 1651 - Guilford VR[3]

The will of John Bishop Sr's wife Anne (Stevens) Bishop, written 1673 and probated at Guilford1676, names her son-in-law James Steele as executor, but does not mention the name of her daughter who was his wife.[1]

Death: Perhaps Jan 1676[1] but definitely before James remarriage in 1685..[4]

Note separately,

  • No such child "Betsey Bishop" is reported by Nathan Grier Parke II, [4] Parke and Jacobus reported about four known children of John Bishop. These were Ann, John, Stephen and Bethia. The child Bethia was reportedly born "say 1630".
  • An earlier account by William Whitney Cone and George Allen Root, Record of the descendants of John Bishop, one of the founders of Guilford, Connecticut in 1639 (1951) mentioned more children[1]

Disputed Birth Date: 1616, England[5]

Bishop-13267 and Bishop-2380 appear to represent the same person because: According to Jacobus article (TAG 36) Ann is an error. Anderson Great Migration: James bp Fairstead 30 Nov 1622; m.
