L. P. Bishop Pass Following An Extended Illness [1]
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon, October 6, at 3:00 o'clock from the Goshen Baptist Church for L. P. Bishop, Sr., with Rev. H. L. Kinman officiating, assisted by Rev. O. V. Swearington.
He passed away in the Magee General Hospital where he had been a patient only 24 hours. He had been in a steady decline in health for the past several months. He was 81 years of age at his death and was retired from both the farming profession and public life to which he devoted his early manhood. He had served District One of Simpson County as Justice Of The Peace and had been a prominent citizen of this community for a lifetime.
Surviving are seven daughters, Mrs. Lillie Mayfield, Mize; Mrs. Bessie Long, Michigan City, Indiana; Mrs. Eva Dilmore, Mt. Olive; Mrs. Pheba Ponder, Mendenhall; Mrs. Lula Mae Meadows, Magee; Mrs. Christian Coats, Biloxi; Mrs. Willie Ruth King, New Orleans; 3 sons, B. T. Bishop, Meadville; Rev. A. B. Bishop, Crystal Springs; L. P. Bishop, Jr., Biloxi; 1 step son, Earl Layton, Richton; 3 brothers, T. W. Bishop; Joe Bishop and John Bishop, all of Magee; one sister, Mrs. Sarah Canoy, Magee; 43 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
Interment was made in the Magee cemetery with the Mims Mitchell Funeral Home, Inc. in charge of all arrangements.
