No specific and verifiable information in regard to his life is available, as of 19 Aug 2019. There are claims that he originated in Pennsylvania, was in South Carolina by the time of the American Revolution, and migrated to Kentucky by about 1820. A James Bishop Jr. appears in the United States Census for 1820, as a head of household in Hopkins County, Kentucky.
Researcher Frederick G Siler believes that James Bishop lived in Camden district until 1800 when he moved, with his mother Hannah Bishop, to Hopkins County, Kentucky. [1] However no record has been found, to date, which validates that he moved to Hopkins County in 1800. Note, Hopkins County, Kentucky was founded in 1806....so there seems to be something wrong with the Siler statement.
