Mrs. Sullivan Dies At Mendenhall ^[1]

Mrs. Julia Bishop Sullivan, 69-year widow, died at her son's home in Mendenhall Wednesday night, and will be buried there Friday.

Mrs. Sullivan was a native of Smith county but had lived In Mendenhall for 43 years. She was born Dec. 12, 1881, and lacked less than 90 days of reaching her "three-score and ten." She was the daughter of the late William and Mary Cathryn Sullivan.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a. m., from the Mendenhall Baptist church, led by Rev. C. C. Jones, assisted by Rev. Roy Lane. Interment will be made in the Mendenhall cemetery with Mims Mitchell Funeral home of Magee completing arrangements.

She is survived by three sons, all of whom are game wardens. They are Huey and Dewey Sullivan of Mendenhall and Ernest Sullivan of Forest. She leave two daughters, Mrs. J. R. Reed of Mendenhall and Mrs. Mamie Sullivan of Mt. Olive.

Unsure what to make of her obituary stating that her parents were William and Mary Cathryn Sullivan. Her obituary gives her name as Mrs. Julia Bishop Sullivan. Was she married to a Bishop prior to Archie Sullivan or is the obituary in error to her parents last name? Bishop-4082 23:02, 27 May 2018 (UTC)

Update on her name. The marriage certificate as indexed has her father's name as Bill Biship [Bishop]. I did not find a census for 1900. Bishop-4082 03:30, 30 December 2022 (UTC)
