George was born in 1832. He is the son of Robert Bishop and Hannah Bantem. George was baptised on 5 November 1832 in Upper Clatford, Hampshire, England.[1].
In the 1841 census George (age 4) was in South Charford, Hampshire, England.[2]
George came to Western Australia on the Sabrina, arriving on 13 June 1853. He was accompanied by a Harriet Bishop.[3]
He married Margaret Ryan on 12 November 1855 at Perth.[3][4]
George joined the Mounted Police in 1857, stationed at Victoria Plains 1865, Frem antle 1867. He was a farmer and grazier at Victoria Plains, in the 1860s and 1870s. He was licensee in 1878 of "Wayside Inn", Pankie and also, "Settler's Arms". He bought 50 acres in 1868. He employed six Ticket of Leave men 1868-1880.[3]
DEATH OF AN OLD RESIDENT. Newcastle. December 12. A farmer named George Bishop died sud-denly at Glentromie, Victoria Plains, yes-terday morning. The resident magistrate and Sergt. Osborn left early this morning to hold an inquest.[5]
He is buried at St Lukes Anglican Church in Gingin.[6]
