Biography

William Bishop was born 21 Aug 1790 in Horton Township, Kings County, Nova Scotia.

According to Tangled Roots, "He came to Nictaux, N.S. (Williamston) from Horton with his father and settled on the farm in Paradise, N.S. (later occupied by his son, William Henry and grandson, Frederick William). Much esteemed for his amiable and friendly disposition."

He married 1 Nov 1821, Rebecca Ann Morse. She was born 9 Apr 1799 at West Paradise, Annapolis Co. and died 23 May 1851.

In 1827, William was a farmer in Wilmot Township, Annapolis Co. with 2 males [Edward, himself] and 1 female [Rebecca, his wife].

In 1838, William was a farmer in Wilmot Township, Annapolis Co. with 1 male over 14 and not head of family [Edward], 1 male between 6 and 14 [William], 2 females under 6 [Elizabeth, Charlotte], plus himself and Rebecca, his wife, total 6 in family.

William died 31 Dec 1840 and was buried in Paradise. According to Tangled Roots, “gravestone in Paradise, N.S. says 1842”.

William Bishop of the Township of Wilmot, wrote his Last Will and Testament on 27 Oct 1840, mentioning his wife Rebekah and children Edward Bishop , William Henry Bishop , Elizabeth Bishop and Charlotte Bishop , "Kinsmen": Major Chipman, Esq., and Thomas Bishop. The will was probated 18 Jan 1841.

  2. William Henry, b. 17 Mar 1828, m. Martha Jane Durgan, d. 22 Jan 1914.
  3. Elizabeth Ann, b. 19 May 1832, m. Charles Woodbury.
  4. Charlotte Chipman, b. 16 Sep 1836, m. Ingraham Fitch, d. 1905.
