Biography

Reuben was born before 1770. He is the son of Newman Blackburn and Elizabeth Younger.

Reuben is named in his father's Will on 18 December 1771 and lists his children. Surry Co, NC Will of Newman Blackburn who is sick. Wife Elizabeth gets home plantation/negro wench Doll/negro boy Micajah. Son Younger Blackburn negro Sam. Son John Blackburn, negro girl Ester. Son William Blackburn, negro negro boy Oliver. Son Reuben Blackburn, negro boy Charles. Dau. Mary Blackburn gets negro girl Little Frank. Child in Being. Exrs: Son Younger Blackburn,Gray Bynum. wit: James Harrison, Anthony Hampton, Ambros Blackburn.

Recd Feb'y Court 1772 Surry County SS. Proved by Anthony Hampton one of the subscribing witnesses of the within last will and testament of Newman Blackburn mad oath that he saw the said Newman Blackburn sign publish and declare the same to be his last will and testament and that he was of sound and disposing mind and memory and that at the same he was James Harrison and Ambrose Blackburn sign the same as witnesses and on motion ordered that Younger Blackburn and Gary Bynum the Executors therein had come into Court and Qualified such as agreeable to law. Ordered that letters Testamentary issue to them according. Truly recorded. Test Jesse Benton CC.[1][2]
