Biography

Harry Downs Blackburn was born February 9, 1902 in Hill City, Graham County, Kansas. He was the son of H. Frank and Esther M. (Worcester) Blackburn.

Harry first married Miss Arva Findley and they had two children. They divorced sometime after 1925 and she married a second time to a Boothe. [1]

Harry Blackburn of Salina, a graduate of the Hill City high school, who has been taking a commercial course at Salina, was married one day recently to Miss Arva Findley, also a graduate of the Hill City schools. Harry has a position awaiting him in the Atwood high school. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Milton Findley. She taught several terms of school in this county. By the union of these two young people a large number of relatives on each side have become "kith and kin." -- The Salina Evening Journal, Tuesday, August 1, 1922 (page 8)

The next records in which Harry was found are the Wichita City directories where he was listed as H. Downs Blackburn, an inspector for Boeing. He was with his second wife, the widow Marjorie A. (Olmsted) Burns. He is also mentioned in a memorial for his step-son, Terry Todd Burns. [2] [3]

Harry’s birth and death dates are taken from a Social Security Death Record that best fits him but has not been proven. It’s believed he died August 1, 1972 in Wichita. His ashes are buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, which is located in Lawrence, Kansas, the hometown of his second wife, Marjorie. [4] [5]
