"Vanrensselaer Crosby, his ancestors and descendants" by Orville W. Bidwell, Dorothy Crosby Parsons, and Bonnie Null Bauman - Library of Congress No. CS71.C95 2000 - Records that there was a legend regarding Lucinda Blackman. It was widely believed that she was an Ottawa indian adopted as a child by the Blackman family. Her birth occurred around the time of the end of the war against the Ottawa tribe in 1795, which supports the legend's timeline. The Ottawa were forcibly removed to Oklahoma with the exception of three branches of the tribe which are still present in Michigan today and are federally recognized.
