Name of Rachel's father
Rachel's father was born as Gottlieb Schwarzwälder on 8 November 1722 in Durren, Neckarkreis, Württemberg, Germany. He was the son of Johannes Schwarzwälder and Elisabetha Maushardt, both of Württenberg, Germany. The surname Schwarzwälder means a person from Schwarzwald, the area in Württenberg, Germany where they lived, which translated into English means Black Forest. Rachel's parents Gottlieb Schwarzwälder and Elisabetha Pfeiffer sailed from Bremerhaven, Germany in December 1755 and arrived in Philadelphia in January 1756. In British America Gottlieb Schwarzwälder 's name was eventually changed to Caleb Blackwelder. But his name at birth was and should be Gottlieb Schwarzwälder, as Caleb Blackwelder is a half-english corruption of his name, and both Caleb and Blackwelder are unknown in Germany, the land of his birth.
