Joel Blackwell is the son of Peter (no middle name) Blackwell and Lydia Padgett. His siblings were--Sylvester, Clarissa, John, Norman, Peter, Sarah, Rebecca, Melissa, Amos, Benjamin. He married Sarah Graham in Franklin Co. TN on 24 Jan 1843. Joel died around 13 July 1862 in Izard Co. AR according to his commanding officer in a deposition at the Coryell Co. TX CH.
Joel Blackwell is my direct ancestor. His grandfather, Joel Blackwell, was born ca 1738 and died 1821 Rutherford Co., NC and he served in the RW. According to Sylvester Blackwell his grandfather had fought at the Battle of Cowpens about 5 or 6 miles from his home in Rutherford Co.
Joel born in 1822 in Rutherford Co. NC was in Izard Co. AR with the CSA when he wrote his Will before his death. We believe that he died from disease as he had not been in combat in that area according to military records. I wish that he had been buried in Ft. Smith because his wish in his Will was to be buried in TX. In that case I would have brought him back home from Ft. Smith. He actually lies buried somewhere unknown in Izard Co. AR.
