Biography

There is no proof that this man was the son of the Reverend Samuel Blair. Joseph the son of Samuel died on 22 May 1748 and was buried in the cemetery of Fagg Manor, PA. He was not abducted by Indians. [1][2] In fact, nothing can be found to determine the identify of this man or his wife and if they were the parents of the attached children. For now, he and his wife are unknown.

The Myth

Married a Cherokee Maiden who was raised by whites. Name; Patricia Margret, nickname (Patsy ) who gave him four boys, Joseph,George, Jacob Jr. and John

JACOB FRANCIS BLAIR WAS BORN ABOUT 1735 ON HIS GR. UNCLES FARM NEXT TO A LARGE SWAMP NAMED FOR HIS GR. UNCLE SAMSON . JACOB WAS BORN TO THE REVERAND SAMUEL JACOB BLAIR Jr. AND FRANCIS VANHOOK. AFTER THEY WERE MARRIED IN NEW JERSEY, THEY TRAVELED TO SAMUELS UNCLES HOME IN WAYNE COUNTY, PA. THEY NEEDED A PLACE TO STAY AS FRANCINE WOULD SOON BEAR HER BABY. IN 1735 HE AND FRANCIS WENT TO UNCLE SAMSON'S FARM WHO HAD FLED TO AMERICA 35 YEARS EARLIER TO ESCAPE EXECUTION. JACOB WAS LEFT WITH HIS UNCLE WHILE HIS FATHER WAS BUILDING HIS CHURCH AND HOME. A DIFFICULT TIME FOR WHITE SETTLERS. TERRITORIAL DISPUTES BETWEEN FRANCE AND BRITISH COLONIES RESULTED IN A 7 YEAR WAR CALLED THE FRENCH AND INDIAN WARS. FRANCE ALLIED ITSELF WITH THE SENICA, WAYNDOT, AND OTHER ALGONQUIN INDIAN TRIBES WHO WERE TRYING TO DRIVE OUT THE WHITES. JACOB WAS OUT PICKING BLACKBERRIES WHEN A SENICA INDIAN APPEARED AND THEN MORE. JACOB WAS TAKEN CAPTIVE AND HELD FROM THE AGE OF 12 UNTIL HE WAS 19. A FUR TRADER CAME TO TRADE AND RESCUED HIM .

Jacob's true name at birth was Joseph Francis Blair. In the Vanhook family Bible it was recorded he died at age 12. This was because he was taken by Indians and lost to the family. They did not expect to ever see him again. The entry was never changed. Joseph took his Father's middle name Jacob when he learned of his death to honor him. PA. His. file returned captives/:Col. J. JACOB DIDN'T HAVE TITLE TO THE LAND IN LIEGHI COUNTY , PENN. THAT HE WAS FARMING. HIS PARENTS HAD BEEN GIVEN SPECIAL PERMISSION TO LIVE ON AND WORK THE LAND SO LONG AS THEY LIVED BECAUSE OF THE CHURCH ON FAGG'S MANOR. WHEN FRANCINE DIED IN 1769 SO DID THE TOLLERANCE FOR JACOB AND HIS INDIAN WIFE. HE PACKED UP AND MOVED TO SULLEY CO.,VA . ON THE ADVICE OF A FRIEND. PATSY CARRIED JOHN IN HER ARMS ALL THE WAY.

Going to detach parents as they are incorrect.
The will of Rev. Samuel Blair names his three sons, Samuel, William, and Isaac. No Joseph. Whoever this Joseph was, Samuel and Frances were not his parents.

No one in this family lived in or near the Cherokee Nation. There are no records of Cherokee women this early, and hardly any white people had been to the Cherokee Nation. There is nothing to suggest wife Patricia was anything other than white.
