Mary Blair, the daughter of David Lewis Blair (1817-1913) and Jane Mary (Algeo) Blair (1825-1887), was born on August 21, 1849 in Peel Township, Wellington County, Canada West,[1][2] where she grew up with her family.[3][4] She married farmer James Spiers (1838-1914) in 1871.[2] Mary and James continued to live in Peel Township, where they pursued farming on the 2nd concession, and had their first three children: John Calvin Spiers (1872–1942),[5] and twins Jane (Spiers) Nelson (1875–1963)[6][7][8][9] and David James Spiers (1875 –1926).[10][11][12]
They moved to Winnipeg in 1875, and in 1876 settled in Raeburn, Manitoba,[13] where two more children were born: Janet (Spiers) McNab (1877–1962)[14][15] and James Daniel Spiers (1880–1962).[16][17] The family continued to move around Manitoba (farming all the while): they lived in Marquette in 1881,[18] in Selkirk in 1891,[19][20] and in Brandon in 1901.[1]
Mary (Blair) Spiers died on April 22, 1905, and is buried in Johnston Cemetery in Oak Lake, Manitoba.[2]
