Thomas Blair was born on July 2, 1887 at Larne, County Antrim, Ireland. He is the son of Alexander Blair and Martha Jane (McIlwaine) Blair.

On census day March 31, 1901, Thomas Blair was living with his parents, six unmarried siblings and his married sister Lizzie and Lizzie's husband Robert Cain at 109 Upper Canning Street in the Duncairn area of Belfast.[1]
