Biography

Orsamus Gilbert joined the settlement in Lebanon, New York in 1805. Gilbert came from Becket Mass in January with a three horse team and settled in Lebanon village, in the house which he built in the winter of 1805. It is the oldest house standing in the town It has since received two additions He left his family at Madison while he came and built a log house bringing them in the following spring. He was a cloth dresser by trade and established there a carding machine. He died here March 9 1843 aged 72. He married in Massachusetts, Annas Blair who died August 9 1853 aged 82.
