Biography

Flag of Virginia
Elizabeth (Blair) Bland lived in Virginia.
Elizabeth was born 20 Jan 1708 to Dr. Archibald Blair and Sarah Archer, in Williamsburg, James City, Virginia.[citation needed]
She married Major John Bolling; she was his second wife.
She remarried Colonel Richard Bland, a widower with children.
She died 22 Apr 1775 in Cobbs, Chesterfield, Virginia.
Elizabeth Blair - wife of Major John Bolling, Jr., daughter of Dr. Archibald Blair, and niece of the Commissary, James Blair, D.D., founder of William and Mary College. Their second son, John Bolling of Chestnut Grove, was a man of great stature and many good qualities. He married in middle life Martha Jefferson, sister of President Thomas Jefferson and a lady of great refinement and beauty. Their third son, Col. Robert Bolling, of Chellowe, born August 17, 1738, was "a lover of wisdom and esteemed it more precious than rubies. He was educated at Wakefield, in England, by the celebrated Dr. Clarke. The schools of Wakefield, in Yorkshire, were very popular with the people of Virginia at this time. Theodric Bland was there, and also Richard Henry Lee and others. Their fourth son, Archibald Bolling, married 4 times, and told his last wife if she should die before him he would marry again, for it "was God's own proverb that it was not good for man to dwell alone, and it is a point of conscience with me to fulfill the Scriptures."

Marriages

After her first husband's death, she remarried to Richard Bland, of Jordan's Point, who was a widower (twice), with children[1] but they did not have their own children.
Her children with her first husband, John Bolling were:
  1. Thomas Bolling, born 18 July, 1735.
  2. John Bolling, born June, 1737.
  3. Robert Bolling, born 28 August, 1738.(the writer of "Memoirs of the Bolling Family")[2],
  4. Archibald, birthdate unknown
  5. Mary, born 28 July, 1744.
  6. Edward, born 9 Sept'r, 1746, and died 10th August, 1770.
  7. Archibald, 2nd son of that name, born 20th March 1749.
  8. Sarah (died as infant before 1748) [citation needed]
  9. Anne (died as infant before 1752) [citation needed]
  10. Sarah, 2nd daughter of that name, born 16th June, 1748. [citation needed]
  11. Anne, 2nd daughter of that name, born 7th Feb'y, 1752. [citation needed]

  2. A MEMOIR OF A PORTION OF THE BOLLING FAMILY IN ENGLAND AND VIRGINIA was published in 1868 in Richmond, VA by W. H. Wade & Co. The book consists of three parts: (1) "Memoirs of the Bolling Family," written in 1764 by Robert Bolling of Chellowe, Buckingham Co., VA and translated from the original French manuscript in 1803 by John Robertson, son of William Robertson (both relatives of Bolling); (2) explanatory notes inserted into the translated text by Virginia statesman John Randolph of Roanoke, a relative of the author and the translator; and (3) additional annotations by the editor, Thomas H. Wynne. The entire work — privately printed and distributed — is comprised of 68 pages, of which only 8+ cover the 1764 Memoir.
The origin and chain of custody of this work have been addressed in this forum. Thomas Wynne's Introduction also discusses these subjects. The Memoir was written in French by Robert Bolling. In the text itself Bolling (1738-1775) writes, "I must speak of persons still living to the present day," which he identifies as the year "1764."
According to Wynne, the French manuscript "became the property of a member of the family, William Robertson, Esq., and in 1803 he gave it to his son [John], than a youth, as an exercise in translation." At some point the translation — Wynne says nothing about the original French manuscript — "fell into the hands of John Randolph of Roanoke, and was in his possession at the time of his death [1833]." For 35 years the translation was in the possession of Randolph's executor, William Leigh, who in 1868 returned it to the original translator: Judge John Robertson. Judge Robertson then consigned the manuscript to Thomas Wynne for editing and printing (50 copies). According to James S. Patton, the manuscript on which it was based went up in smoke with the burning of the Robertsons' Mount Athos house in Campbell Co., VA in January 1876.)

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Elizabeth by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Elizabeth:

Blair-12234 and Blair-182 appear to represent the same person because: They have the exact same details.

Hi, I apologize that I did not notice the project before I started editing. I am adding information from the Morris Fork book I added as a source (at the end) to Wikitree. I often organize the bio chronologically while I'm doing this, but didn't want to do that without checking with the project first. I did not remove any information. Please let me know if reorganization of the existing information would be helpful, otherwise I will leave this profile alone. Thanks.

I do not know who Benjamin Blair is. The claim is that Blair-192 first husband Jonn Kennan Bolling is connected to Col. Bolling.

Sheri Eaton 8.1.2016 Received an email today, from the Official Group 3 Administrator jjacobsj of the Official Bolling Family Web Site:

This Benjamin Bolling and his father have been PROVEN through DNA, NOT TO BE DESCENDANTS OF Col Robert Bolling.

Was looking at the second page of my brother's 5 pages of Blair line and found a Amanda Bolling 1862-1922 that had two lines of Bolling one line through this Benjamin Bolling the findagrave put him son of John Bolling and Elizabeth Blair. And other son of James Bolling 1756-1804. I was going to look for more information and find the Bolling webpage. Thanks April Rarick https://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=25970836&ref=acom

My brother has quite a few Blair DNA cousins. They have Blair/ Bolling, Blair/ Morgan and Blair /Day, here is an example of two blair lines with two Brown lines https://www.wikitree.com/genealogy/Blair-Family-Tree-2803. I think the Blair line, or the Morgan line could be our missing 3rd great grandparents. Our closest 4th cousins have Bolling, Blair. Updated, Only found a 10.4cM with a Anne Bolling 1752-1802 and William Dandridge to William Dandridge 772-1842 then son William Dandridge 1807-1865. The other 10.4cM match may be correct is James Bolling 1756-1810 and Sarah Blevins which is listed on this profile to William Bolling 1786-1810 and Sarah Snodgrass. I pulled all the other matches and will look at them more closer to see WHY they all have Elizabeth Blair and John Bolling as parents, these are the Benjamin Bolling 1734-1832 and Martha Patsy Phelps line to William Bolling and Sarah Fugate. (We have Fugate from other lines I think I might check on Fugate next to see if they match) a Metoaka Bolling 1729-1775, Anne Bolling 1752-1800 and husband Hezekiah Reames. Jane Bolling 1740-1776 husband William Hopkins. William Bolling 1731-1776 and Amelia Randolph, Nancy Ann Bolling 1742-1810 and husband Thomas Hornbuckle. I will update again if I figure anything out. I checked on the Benjamin Bolling and they listed the children that are children and children that are not the children. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Bolling-79 They seem to be trying to correct the issues with children over there. I will take a close look over there with the list I compiled from ancestry.com DNA cousins, hopefully I will come across the mistake or the proof to make corrections.

Could someone please verify her mother. Look at this link that I have just found. so cannot make any comment. Compare Blair-604 which shows that Archibald Blair had two wives, http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Blair-604
