Richard Walmesley Blair, worked in the Opium Department of the Indian Civil Service. Children:
Motihari, India
"Thus his [Thomas Blair] son Richard had to fend for himself from the age of 18. He chose 'the Service' -- as the alien administration of the huge Indian sub-continent called itself -- and not the Church, but without public school or university advantages (one of twelve children, he had been educated at home for economy), he could not get into a favored or fashionable branch of the Service, nor did he rise particularly fast in the humble Opium Department to judge by those postings and gradings. He retired on his pension with no family inheiritance beyond some monogrammed silver and a few pieces of furniture."
