Biography

Abigail was born in 1779. She passed away about 1861.

Abigail was married to Peter Thayer on 12 October 1803 in Franklin, Norfolk County, Massachusetts.[1][2]

On 15 October 1850, Abigail and Peter lived in the household of Alvin and Ann Davidson in Acworth, Sullivan County, New Hampshire. They were listed as paupers, as were six other elderly men and women.[3]

On 16 June 1855,Abigail and Peter lived with their daughter Nancy (Thayer) Tucker in Willsboro, Essex County, New York. They had been residing in Willsboro for a year when the census was taken.[4]

Abigail is buried with her husband in Gilliland Cemetery, Willsboro, Essex County, New York, USA. The headstone has sunk and only "his wife Abigail" is visible.[5]

Research Notes

Abigail Blake was born in Massachusetts about 1783, based on her estimated age at marriage in 1803.

A duplicate of this profile claims a birth year of 1779 (from New York State Census, 1855).

She married 12 Oct 1803 (in Norfolk, Massachusetts) Peter Thayer.

With her last child born in 1820, Abigail was probably not born much before 1775 (which would make her 45), and the marriage in 1803, likely 18 or older, not much later than 1785. Average age of 20, would have her born about 1783.

Death record of Fisher Thayer gives Abigail's birth place as Wrentham (FamilySearch transcribes Worcester, but I think Wrentham is more likely Cole-12288 20:53, 20 June 2022 (UTC))[6]

Originally, this profile gave Abigail's death as 20 Sep 1861 in Acworth, Sullivan, New Hampshire, United States. The last known record of her is in New York. The date is suspiciously similar to the death of 19-year-old Abigail Thayer, dau of Ephraim and Mary who died 27 Sep 1861 in Randolph, Massachusetts. The date comes from Memorial of the Thayer Name which has many mistakes, so information should be verified.

Not the daughter of John and Rebecca (Lawrence) Blake - their daughter Nabby married a Boyden.

Blake's in Wrentham on the 1790 Census (wife details taken from Wrentham vital records by Southgate-301): John James Josiah Abijah (m. Pegge CHEEVER 1756) John Jere[my?] Stephen Blake (1730-1816) (m. Abigail HASKILL in 1776) Solomon (m. Abial POND in 1761) Jacob (m Chloa BRIGGS in 1787) Eben[ezer] (m. Tamar THOMPSON in 1756 in Medway - no Abigail in will) And[rew] Robert Ezra (m. Abigail READ in 1771) Samuel Andrew Eliab (son of Solomon, above m. Hannah DUPEE 1785 in Walpole) Eben[ezer] (m. Abigail DUPEE in 1796 in Dedham) Nathan (m Mary DAY in 1780) Jacob Phillip

Stephen and Abigail (Haskill) Blake had six children: Aaron (1777), Susanna (1780), Stephen (1782), Adoniram (1785), Abner (1788) and Eliphalet (1791). Could Susanna be Abigail? She does not appear further in the Wrentham records.

Eliphalet Fisher of Medfield m Relief Blake, d/o Ebenezer and Mercy. His probate estate refers to a Blake farm in Walpole. Ebenezer and Mercy were in Walpole as late as 1806. Their children's marriages are recorded in Dedham, but the family is not well documented as there are two generations without wills. Possibly Abigail is another child, or a cousin.

1788- Asa Blake of Franklin was deeded land from Ezekiel Thayer in Bellingham. Asa Blake married Hannah d/o Ebenezer Thayer & Hannah Green. Hannah was likely the sister of Ezekiel's wife Huldah.
