James was born in Midhurst, Sussex and baptised there on 1 July 1801.[1] James is the son of of James Blake and Louisa Gage.
James married Catherine Pilkington on 1 November 1831 in Rougham, Suffolk.[2]
James was recorded in Thurston, Suffolk in the 1841 Census.[3]
James was still living in Thurston in 1851, with his wife, children and servants. His occupation was given as Lieutenant and Army Half Pay, JP.[4]
James has not been located in the 1861 Census, but was recorded again in Thurston in 1871, living alone with his wife (and six servants). His occupation was stated to be Army Officer.[5]
