EPHRAIM BLAKE, son Israel Blake, Jr. and Mary Swain, b Aug 19, 1752 East Nottingham, N.H.; (19) (z)(35)(40)(47); moved to Cape Rosier, Me. and Castine, Me. before 1770; Selectman in Castine 1798; on first school committee in 1796; came to Brooksville, Me. in 1765 (see proprietors list) with his father (47); at a Census taken July 13, 1784 at Majorbigwaduce he was living on 120 acres, 70 rods on water, 6 souls residing there. This land first settled by John Smart in 1765 (47); listed on First Parish of Penobscot June 1793 (47); he built a large coasting sloop "Polly and Hannah" at Goose Falls reputed to be first ship built at Brooksville. When finished Capt Lish took her to Bangor to load lumber for Boston, casting anchor Saturday night, loading to start Monday. Sunday morning Capt. Blake and young son, Israel, were aboard alone. Capt. Ephraim stumbled and fell overboard, sank immediately and was not recovered for several hours. A full account in Traditions 8 Records of Brooksville- but it erroneously gives name as Capt.
