George was born on 14 August 1834 in Fayette City, Fayette, Pennsylvania, United States. He was the son of James Blake and Sarah Ann Brown.[1]
When George was about 21 he married Mary Jane McGee in 1856 in Jackson, West Virginia, United States. The couple had 9 children: Philander B. Blake, Oscar E. Blake, Ida May Blake, James Blake, Guy Allen Blake, Charles Moreland Blake, Olivia Elizabeth Blake, Maud Blake and Edna F Blake.[2]

George died at the age of 48 on 16 July 1883 in Silverton, Jackson, West Virginia.[6]
