Charles Thompson Blake was the eldest son of Eli W. Blake of New Haven, Connecticut on Oct. 21, 1826. Blake was a Yale graduate from New Haven. He traveled to California responding to the discovery of gold in 1849. He and three companions established claims in the gold fields near Georgetown.
Blake spent several years in the gold business, eventually taking a position with Wells Fargo Express Company.
He married Harriet Stiles, a long-time Connecticut acquaintance, in 1868. They lived in San Francisco and Berkeley. They had children Anson Stiles, born 1870, Eliza, born 1872, and Edwin Tyler, born 1875. [1]
