Obituary

William Blanchard of Rumford, Maine, died March 5, 1947[1] at age 68. He was born July 8, 1878 in Caraquet, New Brunswick, Canada, the son of Daniel Blanchard and Françoise Poirier. He was a resident of Rumford Maine for the past 25 years. He leaves his wife, Elise Parise, and seven children: Mrs. Emile Doiron, Mrs. Edward Fontaine, Mrs. Frank Doucet, Antoinette, Paul, Henry, all of Rumford, Maine; and Sergeant Lucien at Fort Dix, New Jersey. Two sisters, Mrs. Ernest Jerome of Montreal and Dina in Caraquet. Two brothers: Joseph D in Caraquet and Patrice in Ottawa. The funeral was at Saint John the Baptist, Rumford, Maine.

Biography

In 1925 Guillaume moved his family from Caraquet, New Brunswick, to the unincorporated town of Rumford, Maine, where he worked as a carpenter for Oxford Paper Company.

The household at 428 Waldo Street Rumford, Maine, in the census of 1940: William Blanchard, 60, head of home; Alice, 56, wife; Lucien Blanchard, 28, son; Antoinette, 21, daughter; Paul, 19, son; Henry, 17, son; Marie, 15, daughter.[2] Daughter Germaine had married three years prior to this census.

The 1891 Census of Canada reveals the families of Daniel and Francoise-Poirier Blanchard and Francois and Philomen Blanchard-Parisee, the parents of Guillaume Blanchard and Elizabeth Parisee, were next door neighbors. Guillaume was 12, and Elizabeth was 6. Guillaume and Elizabeth married in their hometown of Caraquet, New Brunswick, Canada, on June 17, 1907. In 1925, after the birth of their tenth and last child, they moved their family to the unincorporated town of Rumford Falls, Maine, USA, a thriving mill community having abundant employment opportunities.
