Edith Clarice Blanchard married Thomas William Russell (Wikitree I/D: Russell-5449) at Newcastle, NSW, in 1902
They resided at Telarah, at Mount Dee for a short time, and then at 'Ardell', Campbell's Hill, Maitland, NSW, for the rest of their lives.
Edie's birth is recorded at Lochinvar, but her parents must soon have been established on their farm at Fishery Creek, West Maitland; certainly that is where she grew up. There is mention of Edith Blanchard as the representative of Fishery Creek at the combined public schools tree-planting on Arbor Day in 1892 (and older sister Clara won the Skipping Contest at the sports that day). Also in the Maitland Mercury are various mentions between 1892 and 1894 of Edie and Clara's results in the newspaper's "Our Puzzles" competition.
At a Congregational Church 'industrial exhibition' in 1893 Edith won first prize in her age division for some needlework. It was an interest that would last throughout her life; the family holds beautiful examples of her fine-thread crochet work.
Very late in her life, probably around 1975, Edith had several successive visits from representatives of the Maitland Historical Society, recording her recollections of the district and the events of bygone times. Regrettably, the records of those interviews seem to be lost, perhaps being discarded after incorporation into the Society's subsequent publications.
A much-loved lady who had outlived all the friends of her youth. Her ashes were scattered in the rose garden at the Beresfield Memorial Park.
