Thomas, born about 1845 in Pickering, C.W. (Ontario), was the son of George Blanchard and Margaret Spenks. He married Jane Field in 1866.[1]
Thomas was a mariner on the Great Lakes. On September 14, 1882, he was the captain of the cargo ship Nellie Sherwood when it sank during a storm on Georgian Bay. No one survived, including his son William.[2]
