Biography

This profile is part of the Blanchard Name Study.

Marie-Madeleine Blanchard, daughter of René Blanchard and Marie Savoye[1] widow Pierre La Noue married at Port Royal on June 2, 1749, to Michel Haché[2]Pierre Savoye , the eldest son of Michel Haché (c1691) and Madeleine LeBlanc. Witnesses to their wedding included- Simon Le Blanc, Guillaume Blanchard, Jean Baptiste Blanchard, and Paul Bourgeois. Marie-Madeleine did not conceive. She raised her husband's six children from his 1737 marriage to Marie-Anne Gravois, daughter of Joseph Gravois and Marie Cyr. [3]

By 1752 Michel and Marie-Madeleine had settled at Ouescaque, near Beaubassin, (present-day Westcock, N.B) with his son Michel and his three daughters. The youngest, Reine, was probably deceased by that time.[4] Michel's parents and his brother Jean were living nearby. They were counted again at Ouescaque in 1755. [5]

The family managed to escape deportation. Around 1758-1759 they sought refuge with thousands of Acadians at Camp d'Espérance on the Miramichi (northern N.B).[6]

In 1763 Michel, Marie Madeleine and Félicité were prisoners at Fort Beauséjour.[7] The married children later settled in southeastern New Brunswick (Grande-Digue, Cap-Pelé and Baie-Sainte-Anne).
