George Blanchard was born about 1616-1618 (based on age at death and gravestone[1][2]) or about 1623 (his court deposition[3]) in Penton Grafton, Hampshire, England, son of Thomas Blanchard (1590 - 1654) and Elizabeth (Unknown) Blanchard (1590 - 1636). His occupation was "patentee."
George accompanied his father, Thomas, and his siblings Thomas, Nathaniel and Samuel in the ship, Jonathan, in 1639.[4]
George married Mary _____ by 1653 in Charlestown, Massachusetts.[5] Their children were:[6]
Another source has information about his estate distribution and somewhat different details about his children:[10]
George died on 18 Mar 1699/1700 in Charlestown, Middlesex, Massachusetts aged about 83 years old. [Note: the Charlestown record records his age as "82?[1] while his gravestone says 84 years.[2]] He is buried in Salem Street Burying Ground, Medford, MA.[2]
George Blanchard came to New England aboard the ship Jonathan in 1639, with his father Thomas Blanchard and his siblings Thomas, Nathaniel and Samuel. [11]
Research Notes
Disputed Wife: George Blanchard's wife was not Elizabeth (Hills) Blanchard (bef.1627-abt.1662). "There remains not the faintest suggestion that George Blanchard married ______ Hills." This mistake is due to Joseph Hills willing land to Hannah and Elizabeth Blanchard of Dunstable, Joseph Hills' grandchildren. They were children of John Blanchard, not George Blanchard.[12]
Disputed son: No reliable source found for Nathaniel Blanchard as a son of George.
Estimated birth date: George's estimated year of birth is based on his age at death. However, there are three conflicting records. His gravestone reports his age as 84, and therefor FindAGrave uses 1616 for his birth year. The Charlestown records say he was "82?." He also made a deposition, undated, but between 31 Aug 1657 and 14 Aug 1659, when he testified to being aged "about 35." Considering his death and gravestone ages were supplied by others, the court deposition probably is more accurate.
Needs Research: List of children should be vetted and sourced

In an undated Middlesex County court record between 31 Aug 1657 and 14 Aug 1659, George Blanchard testified that he was "about 35 years old" and was thus born about 1623. As his age at death was given by someone other than George, it may be suspect. See the following link:
Excellent find, Richard. And considering the preceeding entries mention Nathaniel, his brother, we can be fairly sure it's the right man. It also concerns Edward Collins, who was of Cambridge at that time. Those rowdy cattle are mentioned in Thomas Blanchard's will in 1654, just for fun.
Hi S, I checked my Great Migration Newsletter Vols 1-25. Vol. 22,, No. 1 Jan -Mar 2013 has the Voyage of the Jonathan. On Page 8 (page 686 of the book), Anderson enumerates the passengers that could be identified from documents pertaining to a lawsuit regarding the Noyes family. One small paragraph reads, "Thomas Blanchard, although losing his wife and young child on the voyage, was accompanied by his four sons with his first wife: Thomas, Nathaniel, Samuel and George." This would have been in 1639. I do not know if this will help at all. It was the only source I found where a "Nathaniel' and a "George" Blanchard were listed together; however, they are brothers, not father and son.
Does anyone have a source for son Nathaniel? He was not found in the same reference as the other children. The only Nathaniel Blanchard I found in Massachusetts Vital Records in this same timeframe was Nathaniel Blanchard (abt.1696-abt.1765), but he was a son of Nathaniel Blanchard (1665-1739), rather than George.
Is there a source for the claim that he was born in about 1618 in Penton Grafton? His gravestone would give an estimate birth date of 1616 (age 84 when he died in 1700) and the GMD gives an origin of Clatford, Hampshire for his father.
The wife, Elizabeth Hills is also unsourced. According to sources I have added to Elizabeth (Hills) Blanchard (bef.1627-abt.1662), Elizabeth (Hills) married second John, not George Blanchard. George's wife's last name was unknown.
