Biography

Agatha was born in 1796. Aggie is the daughter of Barnett and Barsheba (Meador) Blankenship. She married Richard Thomas Bandy in 1817, Allen County, Kentucky. Together they are the parents of: John (b 1818 m Camille "Miley" Cook), Cornelia "Nellie" (b 1823 m John Fishburn), Silas (b 1825 m Eleanor Graves), Barney (b 1828 m Martha Huntsman), and Bathsheba (m Levi Spaan). She passed away in 1850. [1]

Research Notes

So far, I can only find conflicting info on her birth. Some say 1796 in Virginia, others say 1800 in Allen County, Kentucky. Of course, back in those days, Kentucky used to be part of Virginia territory and only became a state in 1792. Daniel Boone and a number of immigrants settled in central Kentucky in 1775. During the American Revolution, 1775–1783, settlers soon began pouring into the region. So I suppose its going to depend on which side of the Appalachian mountains her parents Barnett and Barsheba lived in and rasied their family. Barsheba appears to have been born in Tennessee and Barnett in Virginia, and they were married in Virginia. Did Barsheba's family migrate back from the frontier of North Carolina territory (Tennessee became a state in 1796) to Virginia where she then meets her husband? A number of Tennessee counties were formed between 1777 and 1788, leading to the formation of the independent and short-lived state of Franklin from 1784 to 1789. [2]

More research into the family of Barnett Blankenship even though the merge of the two Agatha's...1493 and 333 has been completed... A number of unsourced family trees actually list two Agatha's in Barnett's children, one born about 1796 and the other born about 1812, but its hard to imagine having two living children named the same.

The US census from 1810 through 1830 seem to indicate 12 household members altogether of various ages. 9 in 1810, 9 also in 1820 but with 3 under 10, and only 8 in 1830. The family was living in Virginia in 1810, but in Tennessee for the 1820 and 1830 census. (So, its not likely that Agatha was born in Kentucky, whether 1796 or 1800-1812).

Most of the family trees list the same 10 children (with two Agatha's), but not necessarily in the same order. Some even list 4 additional children born after 1818, and one has those children with another wife. But there's no evidence that those children belong to Barnett's household (at least not indicated on the 1820 and 1830 census).

One very credible source lists only 8 children (and only one Agatha, the early one), BlankenshipOrigins1.pdf by Don Blankenship and hosted on James Blankenship's website: http://www.blankenshipweb.com/ (Isham B./Thomas is also missing from his list). The 8 match the current links on Barnett's profile today.

But I can't help but wonder about the other 2 indicated on the census. And who do these other 4 belong to?[2]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Agatha by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Agatha:

Blankenship-1493 and Blankenship-333 appear to represent the same person because: same parents, same children, same spouse

also removed John (bandy-549) as son for the same reason

I changed the husband from Barney (her son) to Richard... as previously noted in the Bio.
