Disputed Origins

A previous version of this profile claimed, without source, that he was the son of William Blankensoppand Mary. Lacking sources or a discussion of evidence, these parents are being detached.

Biography

Flag of England
Ralph (Blankinsopp) Blankenship I migrated from England to Virginia.
Flag of Virginia

Ralph was from Northumberland, England & landed in James City, Va., 23 July 1640. He gave up his "Head right" (50 acres of land in Va.) to pay his passage to America. we think he moved up the James River & settled in Henrico Co. a few miles east of what is now Richmond. (Abstract of Virginia Land Patents & grant 1623-1800, Va Archives, Richmond, Va.) He probably married & fathered several children or at least 2 sons. His land was probably in England, not Va. Some say after he landed, he changed his name from Blankensopp.

Ralph had eight children.

The original shipping records or passenger manifests which note the arrival of the English immigrant Ralph Blankinship in America are archived in the Henrico County, Virginia Order Book for 1678-1693. They contain the source documents for the importation of people seen listed below. All entries on the list of individuals imported by Richard Kennon are numbered according to the year in which they were imported. Group #8 on the list is for those imported in the year 1686. There is no mistaking that the individuals in group #8 were imported in the year 1686. there were Walkers, Fawcetts and Blankinships living in this same very small parish of Gainford in 1686.

There is no references that connect Ralph Blankenship (17) to this man but I cannot disconnect the two and noone else is interested.

I'm interested. I've asked for sources for the identification. Are you saying you've been asking since November 2019?

I'm also interested in knowing what the source is for identifying the parents of THIS profile, as well.

Yes, nothing has moved at all. The two should be disconnected. I would love to continue by Blankenship lounge but I need some sources.

Disputed origins section added. Parents detached. Profile protected to prevent attaching of other relationships. This profile still needs a lot of research.

Ralph Blankenship Sr was born in England in 1662 BUT Ralph Blankensopp arrived in America in 1640!! No reference that he went back to England. More reasons why this connection is suspect

I still do not see the connection of Ralph Blankenship (Blankinsopp) Blankinsopp-2 who married Martha Stanley and Ralph Blankenship Blankenship-17 who married Martha Stanley. There is no evidence to connect the two. The connection should be severed.

Ok here is another solution. Since this Ralph Blankinsopp has no source tying him to Ralph Blankenship, he should be called Richard Blankenship. Ralph Blankenship Sr called his first son Richard and a common practice was to name the first son after the father. Another possibly is Ralph Blankenship Srs's father was Joseph Blankenship. Joseph was in the same county as Ralph Blankenship Sr was at the same time. A problem still remains is that Ralph Blankenship Sr was born in England and Ralph Blankensopp and Joseph Blankenship were in America.

Since Blankenship-17 and Blankinsopp-2 cannot be merged, I propose that Blankinsopp-2 be eliminated. There is no evidence to support it. Source S1 and William Blaninsopp do not exist and source 1686 passenger list refers to Blankinship Origins which does NOT connect these two families. According to a query in The American Genealogist Vol 52, No 4 there was a Ralph Blankin not Blankinsop imported in 1640 but NO connection to Ralph Blankenship emigrated in 1686. Ralph Blankenship did marry a Martha who married a Stanley after Ralph died.

Blankenship-17 and Blankinsopp-2 are not ready to be merged because: Doesn't match needs more investigation years are way off

There is no source for this couple. Source #S1 goes right back to this page. Source William Blankinsopp does not exist. Source 1686 Passenger List refers to Blankenship-17. Ralph Blankenship-17 married Martha who married Edward Stanley after Ralph's death . So if no source is found should be detached from Ralph Blankenship-17

There is an error here. Ralph Blankenship Sr b. c1662 married Martha
