Biography

Richard Blevins was born in 1763, in Virginia Colony to He married Hannah Ausborn and had children. He died in 1839 in Marion, Tennessee.

Research Notes

Richard is documented with both surname variations Blevens/ Blevin in sourced material.

Richard is the probable son of Daniel Blevins, based on his Montgomery, VA residency (Militia records), Loyalist Insurrection charges (with father Daniel), and his migratory path into Buncombe, North Carolina with father Daniel.

He was likely born earlier than 1763 (about 1760?) based on 1777 Military record. Richard and Jonathan being twins (speculated) comes from "Blevans - Burks History" disputed book by Ruth Ping.

Richard appears on the 1777 Montgomery County Militia, under John Cox (age 14?, birthdate 1763?), also listed are father Daniel and brother Jonathan ("Blevins Men of the Revolution", page 6)

Loyalist Insurrection; in a sworn deposition by Capt. John Cox dated 16 July 1779, entered into the Washington County Court Records by William Campbell, as participating in the Insurrection of Captain Cox and Osbourne's Company and having Loyalist affiliations. Richard is named with father Daniel, and brother Jonathan. ("Blevins Men of the Revolution", page 6).

He is listed on the (updated) 1782 Montgomery Militia List under John Cox, with brother Jonathan, and on additional 1782 Montgomery List under James McDaniel, with brother Jonathan.

Richard is listed on the 1783 Montgomery Militia under Capt. Enoch Osborn.

  • (Special note Enoch is the father of wife Hannah Osborn. (surname misidentified as Ausborn)

An (updated) 1783 Militia list under John Cox, with brother Jonathan. ("Blevins Men of the Revolution" page 11).

He is documented in Virginia Military Records, for Montgomery County Militia under Capt. James Cox (1782/83?) (documented as Ritchard (sic) Blevin (sic), page 229

Richard is noted on Tory Whig Lists for years 1782 -83.

Richard is documented in "Washington County Court Pleas" building the Burke (Buncombe), NC Roads, which began in 1788.

"Washington County Court Pleas" 2 Monday of July 1789: "Ordered by the Court that a road be laid off the nearest and best way, from the head of Greasy Cove to the head of Limestone Cove on the road leading to Burke, the following person" names father Daniel, brothers Elisha, John, and Jonathan.

Richard is the likely son of Daniel Blevins. Based on Montgomery, VA residency (militia records), Loyalist Insurrection charges, and migration into Buncombe, NC (all just mentioned with father Daniel), there seems to be enough proof. I can find no alternative father. It's a wrap.

OK, Ange, I clicked on the Blevins-223 & Blevins-204 links you listed, & they're already merged to this one (Blevins-113.) I noticed you had posted that a week ago, but I only saw it today, so possibly it was merged then. Thanks again.

Added sources, research note (Blevans/ Blevins), daughter Jemina Blevins Roberts, son Stephen Austin Blevins. Not my direct family, but am willing to help sort these families.

Blevins 113 and Blevins-223 and Blevins-204 are all the same individual, need to be merged.

Thank you, Ange, am checking into it. Yes, if they're the same person, they do need to be merged. I've found a few others like that recently, too, and just have not had the time. But will work on this today.

I also just (scrolling down) noticed that Living McQueen had made 2 separate comments in 2016 about the same three individuals! So, long overdue.

Richard and Jonathan are likely brothers, but they are not brothers of the William, John, Dillon and James listed here.

Sarah Belcher can not be the mother of Richard if he was born in 1760 and Sarah was born in 1769
