Two brothers, David and Hardin, Blevins, moved to Rhea County from upper East Tennessee prior to 1830 when they both appeared on the census. David may have moved first, since he was taxed in 1822, and in 1821, his name was included on a list of unclaimed letters in the Washington Post Office ( Knoxville Register, Vol. V, No 259, 10 July 1821). Although, Hardin Blevins purchased land in the Hiwassee District in 1821, his name does not appear on the tax list until 1825. Hugh Blevins, possibly another brother, also purchased land in 1821, but he was never taxed It has been very difficult to identify the children of David and Hardin, since neither left a will and estate settlements do not list the legatees or distributees. A handwritten document (author unknown) found among some old papers contained the following statement: Using the above statement and the estate settlements, the children of Hardin and Elizabeth probably were John W. (1806 - 1882), Margaret ( 1807- 1855), Moses (1810 - 1845), Phillip (1815), Samuel (1813 - after 1880), Thomas Vance (1817 - 1867), Elizabeth ( 1820 - after 1900), and Catharine (1825). It should be noted that some researchers have placed James as a son of Hardin, rather than David. John W. Blevins was appointed Administrator of the estate of Hardin Blevins, who had died before the census was taken in June or July 1860. The inventory of Hardin's estate included notes on Thomas V. and Samuel Blevins, most likely sons.
Hardin B. was born in 1777. He passed away in 1860.
