Biography

Elizabeth was born to Jonathan and Charlotte Blevins. She married Christian Steele in 1808, Kentucky and had daughter Sarah. She died after 1850 in DeKalb, Alabama.

Research Notes

Elizabeth was likely born in Burke, North Carolina. Burke was originally part of Buncombe, NC. Father Jonathan Blevins-195 is documented on the 1790 Census in Burke, North Carolina.

Elizabeth's second husband Jacob Troxell-17 is disputed, simply based on her age for the 1850 DeKalb, Alabama Census. However there is enough proof to say this is the Elizabeth who married Jacob Troxell-17.

Elizabeth has an additional unknown daughter documented on her 1810 Census. She was born between 1808 - 1810, not to be confused for Elizabeth's daughter Sarah Steele-2844 born in 1811 after census was taken.

Proof of Relationships

Elizabeth Blevins married Christian Steele, in 1808. This is documented and supported by her marriage record in which father Jonathan Blevins-195 gives consent.

Elizabeth was born circa 1794, and though 14 is young to marry, her age is confirmed on husband's Christian Steele's 1810 Census. This census lists her age correctly (age group between 16-25 years) making birthdate as 1794.

Elizabeth migrates into DeKalb, Alabama as do her siblings Jonathan Blevins-432, Henry Blevins-196, Richard Blevins-1031, and her daughter Sarah Steele-2844 Tinker.

Elizabeth is documented as residing next to daughter Sarah Steele-2844 Tinker in DeKalb, Alabama on the 1840 Census.

Husband Jacob Troxell-17 also resides in Wayne, Kentucky in 1810 - same time as Elizabeth. Jacob migrates into same area of DeKalb, Alabama.

Jacob's daughter Catherine Troxel-106 marries Elizabeth's brother Jonathan Blevins-432 and daughter Mary Troxell-113- marries Elizabeth's uncle Tarlton Blevins-1633

Enough proof Jacob married Elizabeth Blevins Steele, these families knew each other, mingled and migrated into DeKalb, Alabama.

Added sources and research notes. Elizabeth Blevins is the Template:Disputed wife of Jacob Troxell-17, enough proof has been shown that this was his wife.

Notice; The 43rd Annual Blevins Family Reunion is being held Saturday July 29th at 11:00AM in the Jamestown Tennessee Community Center at the York Institute in Jamestown Tenn. I'm told that this could very well be the last such reunion. For more info call Martha Cain at (865) 671-0453 or Charlotte Horne at (803) 438-3701. Martha and Charlotte advise bring the family and a covered dish to share for the potluck meal. This reunion is to honor the genealogy done years ago by Laccie W. and Ray E. Blevins who published the fine book entitled "Jonathan Blevins Sr. of Virginia and His Descendants" which is now long out of print.
