Arthur William Blomfield was born 6 Mar 1829 at Fulham Palace, Fulham,Middlesex, England. [1].
HIs parents were Charles James Blomfield, Anglican Bishop of the City of London[2] and his wife Dorothy (Cox) Blomfield.He was the fourth issue born.
Sir Arthur attended Rugby School in his younger years and was admitted to Trinity College, Cambridge University on 4 Jan 1847. He matriculated at Michaelmas 1847 (start of the Autumn Semester) obtaining his BA in 1851; further his MA in 1854. Arthurwas to become one of the most renowned Architects in England of his time. Initially, articled to Philip Charles Hardwick, architect, for three years.[3] he was later to open his own Architects Office at Adelphi Terrace in 1856become President of the Architectural Association in 1861, and then a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects in 1867.

Arthur William Blomfield married Sara Louisa Ryan in 1887. The marriage was registered in Kensington, London in the second quarter of the year.[7] A marriage notice was published on 25 Apr 1887.[8]

1851 The 1851 Census has Arthur Wlliam Blomfield (22) studying in an Architects Office and living at St James Square in Saint James Westminster with his father Charles James (64, Bishop of London), mother Dorothy (58), and four siblings: Francis (23, Student at Law), Charles F (19, Articled to a Solicitor), Lucy Elizabeth (20), and Dorothy Esther (15), as well as numerous servants.[9].
1861 Census In 1861 Arthur W Blomfield (age 32, Architect) lived at Park Road in Richmond, Surrey with his wife Coroline H (20) and two servants: Sarah Turner (24) and Harriet Bailey (25).[10]
1871 Census In 1871 Arthur W Blomfield (age 42, Architect) lived in Marylebone, London with his wife Caroline H (31) and son Arthur C (7, Scholar), as well as five servants: William N Leach (24), Lucy Mitchell (28, Cook), Jane Piggott (24, Nurse), Jane Crocker (23, Housemaid), and Rose Mitchell (15, Kitchen Maid).[11] Their other son, Charles J (9, Scholar), was at boarding school in Frant, Sussex.
1881 Census In 1881 Arthur W Blomfield (age 50, Architect MA Camb) lived at Montagu Square in St Marylebone with his wife Caroline (41), son Chas Jas (19, Architect Student), daughter Adele (9, Scholar), sister-in-law Georgina C Smith (27), and two servants: Mary G Large (33, Ladys Maid) and Martha Chubb (24, Cook).[12] Their other son, Arthur C (17, Scholar), was a boarder in Great Amwell, Hertfordshire.
1891 Census In 1891 Arthur W Blomfield (62) lived at Montagu Square in St Marylebone, London with his wife Sara L (32) and three children: Mary E (3), Francis (1), and Rose E C (0), as well as six servants: Mary M Lupton (26, Nurse), Elizabeth Addle (27, Cook), Hannah M Wood (34, Parlour Maid), Frances J Dickinson (26, Housemaid), Emily J Granger (21, Under Nurse), and Mary J Sullivan (20, Under Housemaid).[13]
In 1890-97 Arthur rebuilt the nave of St. Saviour's parish church, Southwark (now Southwark Cathedral), replacing an earlier reconstruction of 1839–40. It is a notable example of his use of a Gothic Revival style. The Church for Royalty - St. Mary Magdalene, Sandringham'
In the same year as previous (1890) Arthur and his team renovated the Church that the Royal Family to this day attend for Christmas Mass. St Mary Magdalene, Sandringham. Located on the boundary of the late QEII's Sandringham Estate.
The Grade II* listed church is dedicated to Mary Magdalene and is described as a small building in the Perpendicular style, "nobly lying on raised ground". The current building dates to the 16th century and was restored by S. S. Teulon in 1855 and Arthur Blomfield in 1890. It is considered to be a noteworthy example of a carrstone building.
It is located in the park and is approached from Sandringham House through the garden by "an avenue of fine old Scotch firs".
In 1882 Blomfield designed the Royal College of Music in London and in 1887 Arthur became architect to the Bank of England and, in association with A. E. Street, designed the Law courts Branch in Fleet Street

Sir Arthur was highly regarded as a restorer; a spokesman for the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings said of his 1898 restoration of Salisbury Cathedral spire "conducted in the most conservative way possible ... I am confident that anyone who had been privileged to see the work that is being done ... would not withhold his subscriptions even though he was as ardent an anti-restorer as your obedient servant."
In 1899 he completed St. George's Anglican Cathedral in Georgetown, Guyana[14] which was the tallest wooden church in the world until 2003.

Arthur W Blomfield passed away on the 30 Oct 1899, aged 70 years. His death was registered in Westminster St Margaret, London in the last quarter of the year.[15] "BLOMFIELD sir Arthur William of 28 Montagu-square Middlesex knight A.R.A. died 30 October 1899 at the Royal-socierty's-club 63 St. James'-street Middlesex Probate London 4 December to Charles James Blomfield and Arthur Conran Blomfield architects and Joseph Watson Overbury esquire Effects £28006 12s. 2d. (Resworn Apr 1901 £28569-17-10)"[16] An obituary was published in the Hereford Times on 4 Nov 1899.[17]
