THIS PROFILE CURRENTLY HAS MAJOR PROBLEMS RESULTING IN FALSE MCS AND ROYAL ANCESTRIES.
Investigation needed
The d. loc. of "Mamble,Cleobury Mortimer,Warwickshire,England" was shown, but this is a fictitious place ... Mamble is in Worcestershire, Cleobury Mortimer is in Shropshire and thus, neither is in Warwickshire.
The Victoria County History of Worcester, Vol. 4 (1924) has a good brief history of the Blount family of Sodington, Worcestershire. According to its account, Walter Blount died about 1323 and his wife Joan was the sister of William de Sodington who died about 1303. Canning-229 14:27, 7 January 2015 (EST)
Marriages and Children
Married: Isolda Mountjoy, daughter of Sir Thomas Mountjoy.
Many older sources give him a second wife Eleanor Beauchamp, daughter of John Beauchamp of Hacche.[1][2] They also make his son Walter the son of this second wife. This is an error and he had no such wife.
The error likely occurred because of confusion over the quartering of arms by the Blount which was thought to contain the arms of Beauchamp. Per Nat Taylor, "On the alleged Blount-Beauchamp marriage, an article by Cecil R. Humphery-Smith, "The Blount Quarters," _The Coat of Arms_ 4 (1957), 224-27, is corrected by G. D. Squibb, "The Heirs of Beauchamp of Hatch," ibid., pp. 275-77, showing that the particular claimed marriage cannot have happened."[3]
Also, Isolda Mountjoy can be shown to be living as late as 1352, after the apparent birth of Walter.[3][4][5]
In 1374, John Blount gave to "his brother" Walter Blount land from the Mountjoy inheritance. And it should noted that the Blount family was later granted the title of Lord Mountjoy. There is no actual evidence in the way of deeds, charters, grants, or land ownership that Eleanor Beauchamp was the mother of Walter Blount, or that a Blount-Beauchamp marriage even occurred.
Children of John Blount and Isolda Mountjoy:
Richard Blount. Born about 1345. He was son and heir in the 1358 IPM of his father.[6] He appears to have also died about 1358 as it was his brother John who inherited.
"He died on Thursday after the Feast of St. Chad this year." The Feast of St. Chad was on Friday, March 2 in 1358.[6]
