He passed away in 1940 [4] and was buried at the
Kadina Cemetery.
Mr. James Boase, of Wallaroo Mines, whose death recently was recorded at the age of 78, was born near St. Ives, Cornwall. The family emigrated to South Australia in 1865, and Mr. Boase, sen., obtained employment at the Wallaroo Mines. Young Boase as was usual then, began work at an early age, and was employed by the Wallaroo and Moonta Mining and Smelting Co. from the age of seven and a half until the Kadina mines closed down, a period of about 70 years. On attaining manhood he was engine driver at Taylor & Young's winding plants, and subsequently overseer at the ore sorting plant. He succeeded Mr. Raymond as librarian at the Wallaroo Mines Institute, and carried on until ill-health compelled him to resign. As a member of the institute committee he rendered good service for many years. Mr. Boase was keenly interested in church work, and closely connected with the Wesleyan, and later the Methodist Churches at Wallaroo Mines. Like his father, Mr. Boase was a local preacher for many years, and also actively interested in many organisations in the life of the communities of Kadina and Wallaroo Mines. During the Great War, 1914 19, he worked zealously for patriotic efforts. He was a prominent figure in local lodges, a C.R. of the Foresters and Master of the Orange Lodge. He married Miss Florence Ann Trenerry, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Trenerry, of Moonta, in 1889, who died in 1897, leaving a family of three children. In 1903, Mr. Boase married Miss Blanche C. Peate, who survives, together with two sons, Mr. Theo Boase (Cairns, Queensland), and Mr. Garnet Boase (A.I.F., and Wallaroo).
