Mary was the daughter of Charles Body, carpenter, and Maria Sergent of launceston, cornwall. in 1860, she married Rchard Ball by banns in the parish church of stoke, demerel. 5 years later she made the voyage out to new zealand on the ship 'louisa' to join richard who had taken part in the waikato wars arriving at auckland on march 28 1865. mary and richard had 1 more child born in Auckland before moving to Nelson and later blenheim. she became ill in her later years and didn't recover, eventually dying in december 1907. she is buried at omaka cemetery[1]
Mary arrived in NZ on the ship "Louisa" with her young son Claude, on 28th March 1865 as an assisted immigrant. Richard Ball was the nominator along with two of his friends H.G Hebble and Thomas Wren. Richard was already in NZ taking part in the Maori wars.
