Biography

Jacob was born about 1772 and he was baptized August 16, 1772 at the Reformed Dutch Church of North-Southampton, Bucks County, Pennsylvania.

His mother died at his birth and his father died when he was seven years of age.

On the 13th of April 1784 Jacob Bogart of Somerset County, New Jersey, son of Guisbert Bogert, deceased a farmer, chose Bergon Brocaw, Sr. as his guardian.

Jacob Bogart was one of the first physicians licensed in 1802 by the county judge of Cayuga County, New York as is seen on page 386 in History of Cayuga County, New York: with illustrations and biographical sketches of some of its prominent men and pioneers by Storke, Elliot G., 1811-1879. cn [2]

Page 158 260. Gilbert Bogart, son of Jacob Bogaert (249) and Ann Doremus, was born in Bucks County, Pa., about 1748, although no birth or baptismal record can be found, he is referred to in his father's will of 1777 as "my eldest son Gysbert" (Appendix-P. He attended the North-South Hampton Dutch Church, his name appearing among a list of pew holders of that church. He married (1) Metje Brokaw, daughter of Bergon Brokaw. She died at the birth of their only child, Jacob, in 1772. he married (2), Wilhelminia Nevius, daughter of Peter Nevius; she was born at Six Mile Run, N. J., July 4, 1759. He left Bucks County and settled in Millstone near Raritan where he became a member of the Readington Dutch Church. He died intestate in 1779. His two sons, Peter and John Gilbert, by his second wife went to live with their maternal grandfather, Peter Nevius of Pleasant Plains, in whose will dated February 3, 1794 they are mentioned. Peter Nevius and Bergon Brokaw, Sr., were named Administrators of Gysbert Bogert's estate; Letters of Administration signed by Henry Van Mittleswaert, were issued Nov. 2, 1779. Page 159

Record for Dr. Jacob Bogart 268. Dr. Jacob Bogart, son of Gilbert Bogart (260) and Metje Brokaw, was baptized in Bucks County, Pa., August 16, 1772. His mother died at his birth and his father in 1779 when Jacob was seven years of age. His maternal grandfather, Bergon Becaw, Sr. was appointed his guardian in 1779 and in 1781, John Brocaw, Jr., of Bridgewater succeeded him as guardian. On May 9, 1786, Andrew Andrew Van Mittleswaert, his uncle (husband of his Aunt Sarah) was appointed guardian. Jacob is mentioned in his grandfather's will dated May 15, 1777, to wit. - "I give to my grandson, Jacob Bogart the black mare." Dr. Bogart married Mary Brokaw, daughter of John Brokaw, Jr. and May Van Der Veer, who was born in Somerset County, N. J., in 1776 and died in West Sparta, Livingston County, New York in 1862. For a short time Dr. Bogart lived in Millstone, Somerset, New Jersey, where his children were born. Shortly after 1800 he settled with his family is Owasco, Victory Township, Cayuga County, N.Y., where he was a practicing physician until his death in 1823. He was one of the organizers of the Cayuga County Medical Society and served as its first secretary in 1806. He was a witness to the will of Elsie Schenck, April 19, 1815. Letters of Administration on his estate dated February 26, 1823. She died in West Sparta in her eighty-sixth year.

Page 161 271. Peter Brokaw Bogart Son of Dr. Jacob Bogart (268) and Metje Brokaw, was baptized in Millstone, New Jersey November 10, 1793. He settled in Owasco, N. Y.. with his parents. He married Agnes Welty, daughter of Adam Welty. His wife was born in 1809 - died April 3, 1879. He was a prosperous farmer, died intestate, October 19, 1843. His son Jacob Bogart and Phillip Welty were named Administrators. [Note: Children are listed here}

272. Andrew Van Mittleswaert Bogart, son of Dr. Jacob Bogart (268) and Metje Brokaw, was born in Millstone, New Jersey in 1802. He moved to Owasco with his parents and settled in West Sparta, Livingston County, New York. He married Rachel Weeks( born 1807 - died November 9, 1884) daughter of Robert Weeks of West Sparta. He died in 1846, Letters of Administration at that time.

Page 161a 291 Robert Weeks born 1n 1836 married (1) Belle Snyder, daughter of Henry Snyder; married (2) Grace Perrine, daughter of William T. Perrine and Ann ...., in 1866. she died January 1891; he married (3) Harriet Stevens. He resided in Mount Morris, N.Y., and died there in 1916 leaving a will dated March 24, 1911. 292 Elizabeth married Marcus Dunning, she died in 1895. [Note: I believe that this is an inaccurate date ja] 293 Jacob Henry, settled in Greenfield, Indiana. No trace of him could be found. 294 Andrew died young. [5]
