Biography

"Ezekiel was the illegimate son of Ebenezer Zane ... his mother being Sally Boggs ... Ezekiel was a large man with red hair as was Ebenezer ... Ezekiel was reputed to be 6 feet and 4 inches in height and over 200 lbs in weight." (Hooker 1998).

Birth location uncertain: "Wheeling, Ohio, West Virginia" per Family Search, "PA" per Honeyman & McDaniel (1998), "Fort Henry, Marshall, Virginia" unsourced. Thirteen children ID'ed by Family Search.

"An only child ... [Ezekiel] was apprenticed to the mason's trade. Being cruelly used, he was induced by an uncle to leave, both migrating to Ohio where he again apprenticed, to the blacksmith trade. He served six months in the War of 1812. He moved his young family to near Piqua [Miami Co] OH in 1819 where he farmed until 1828 when he erected a grist and sawmill north of Piqua." (Honeyman)

His sons "Ezekiel, Jr. and Aaron were administrators of Ezekiel's Estate in January 1865. In addition to [these sons], payments were made in settlement of his estate to [daughter Sarah Rench,] Nancy Rench, John Boggs, Mary Adams, Jessy Morgan, Adam Weaver, and Oliver Kindle ... His Estate [totalled] $19,180.31" (Hooker)
