Biography

Mary Ellen was born in 1787, the daughter of Samuel Boggs and his wife Ellen Watts. She married David Grant in 1807^[1] and they had seven children. Mary passed away in 1855.

My father, Adam Daniel Hodam was married to Miss Eliza Ellen Grant March 26, 1840 in Gallia County, Ohio. My maternal grandfather, David Grant was of Scotch desent and his wife, Mary Ellen Boggs was of Irish decent. Grandfather lived to be 81 years old. He died August the 9th, 1857 in Scioto County, Ohio. He was born in Fincastle, Botetourt Co, Virginia. My mother was born in Gallipolis Ohio on the 25th of July, 1811 and died at her home in Wirt co, West Virginia November 13th, 1885 aged 74 years, 3 months, 19 days and is buried near her old home in the Hodam Chapel Cemetery, Roane Co, Wv."
