Biography

Rheulanah was born about 1843 in Harrison County in Virginia (in the part of the state that became West Virginia in 1863), probably in Center Point. She was the daughter of Charles Bonnell and Jane Martin. She grew up on the family farm in Center Point area in what in 1845 became part of the new Doddridge County. At the age of 16 in 1859, she married Peter A. Ash in Doddridge County. The couple settled to farm in Riggins Run in the McClelland area in Doddridge County, living near Peter's parents and siblings and raising a family of four children. Her husband died in 1909. Rheulanah continued to live there with her son Sylvanus's family, She lived to be 84 years old, dying in Riggins Run in 1928. She is buried together with her husband in Underwood Cemetery near Riggins Run, West Virginia.

Note discrepancies in death dates between the deaths register (Feb 20th) and the death certificate (May 13th). The death certificate date looks dubious given that the burial date is given as March 15th!
