John Laird Bonner, son of Dr. John Bonner and Eliza Feribry Williams, was born in Wilcox Co., AL on 11 February 1831. The family called him "Johnny." He married his first cousin, Sarah Elizabeth "Bettie" Bonner on 25 April 1850. They were parents of 8 children: Joseph Samuel; Eliza Jane Williams; John Irvine; Jim Billie; Andrew; Oliver Young; John Irvine "Jack;" Theophilus Hunter. After moving to Freestone County, TX, he established a plantation in the Bonnerville Community near his father and siblings and is said to have had ten miles of rail fences. During the Civil War, he served in in Peck's Reserved Company, Braxton Bragg's Cavalry with the rank of third sergeant. He spent time in the Union prison in Chicago, IL. He served as Elder in Harmony ARP Church at Stewards Mill, Freestone Co., TX.
After the death of Sarah Elizabeth Bonner, John Laird Bonner married Elizabeth Boggs Robinson, daughter of his first cousin, in 1881. They made their home in Bonnerville but lived in Corsicana, Navarro Co., TX for a few years and were charter members of the ARP Church there. John Laird Bonner and Elizabeth Boggs Robinson were parents of 5 children: Annie Lee; Janie Bell; Sallie Robinson; Wirt Knox; James Millen. They later resumed life at Bonnerville where John Laird Bonner died 25 August 1905.[1]
