For more than 20 years, Boone was a steam threshing machine operator doing custom work and also his own threshing, and put long hours in the hot sun during the harvest season each year.
"I was the first man to swing an ax to clear the right of way for the Katy (Missouri- Kansas - and Texas) Railroad in the Portland (Callaway County Mo.) area "he recalls, "I always worked hard and long hours".[1]
For the last 35 years of his life he just tended his own farm work.
A life long resident of Callaway County, he was born near the Montgomery County line on Oct . 23, 1862, son of Alonzo Boone (1810 - 1896) and Martha Boone (1825 - 1873).[2] [3]
Mr. Boone's great-great grandfather was a brother of Daniel Boone, according to family records.
He was first married to the former Lucy Tate (1869 - 1919), and ten children were born to the couple. Lucy died in 1919 and on Oct. 31, 1920, he married the former Mrs. Eva Garrett Wyatt (1886 - 1972).
His children are David Crockett Boone (1890 - 1986), St. Louis, Gailey Kring Boone (1905 - 1998), Norfolk, Va., Leo Alonzo Boone (1899 - 1979), Fulton, John Boone, Kansas City; Mrs. Whit Bruce, New Franklin. One son, Mann died of battle injuries during WWI and another son and two daughters died in infancy.
He also has step-daughters, Mrs. Virginia Veatch, Fulton, and Mrs. Lois Shively.
Other children include Birdie May Boone Leukhardt (1891 - 1923), Bettie Florence Boone Bruce (1892 - 1967), Richard Bennett Boone (1895 - 1918), and Naomi Ruth Boone Bridges (1906 - 1998).
He died 26 Sep 1963 in Fulton, Callaway, Missouri, United States and was buried in Callaway Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum, Fulton, Callaway, Missouri, United States.[4][5]
