John, born in Missouri, traveled to Texas. He was enumerated on the 1880 US census for Cooke County, Texas in the household of his brother Benjamin Howard Boone and family. Their father, James, was in the same household.

Since John's last known residence was in the household of his brother, Benjamin Howard Boone, it is presumed that he is buried with the rest his family in the Fairview Cemetery in an unmarked grave.
